Evil Geniuses secure victory in Europe
Despite losing out in Central Europe Series #6 in the opening round of playoffs, Evil Geniuses was invited back to CCT West Europe Playoffs #3 where they faced off against LDLC OL while they continue bootcamping in Europe ahead of their IEM Dallas appearance. Evil Geniuses have not had the greatest start to 2023, which included a roster change and losing out on several important events, like the BLAST.tv Paris Major where the team were eliminated in the Americas RMR.
This match started off on the wrong foot for the French as they would have to enlist their coach, Lambert "Lamber" Prigent to fill in for François "AMANEK" Delaunay who was recently benched. Beginning on LDLC's pick of Anubis, the French were able to secure a strong 9-6 opening T-side as the Evil Geniuses squad were unable to slow their roll.
However, the second half would prove to be much stronger for the North Americans as they simply dominated on their T-side. By winning the opening pistol, the Blueprint organization set themselves up to tie the match at 9-9, but that wouldn't stop there. Ismail "refrezh" Ali proved there was a reason he was picked up as he powered his team to a 10-1 half, securing a 16-10 victory with 27 kills and a 1.79 rating.
With Evil Geniuses now having all the momentum on their side, they headed to their pick of Inferno in hopes of cleanly closing out the match. The first half proved to be a strong start for the North Americans as they rode on the back of Timothy "autimatic" Ta towards a 8-7 half. With the sides switched, LDLC would take the lead after winning their second pistol of the map, but that lead would not last for long. Evil Geniuses showed that their practice was working as they held strong and secured the second map 16-12 and won the series 2-0.
Evil Geniuses will now look to play the winner of Monte v. Nexus which starts tomorrow at 11:00AM.
