floppy: "I was on the verge of crying as soon we won"
After qualifying to the BLAST.tv Paris Major with a 2-0 win over MIBR, Ricky "floppy" Kemery was on the verge of tears with Complexity previously missing out on the IEM Rio Major. Following the win, Ryan Friend sat down with floppy to discuss the emotions of making it back to a Major, the tricky practice situation in the leadup to the RMR, and Complexity's busy schedule, among other things.
How's it feel getting back to another Major?
Yeah, I don't really have any words right now, I was on the verge of crying as soon we won and I didn't so... it's just an amazing feeling.
It's been a difficult road for Complexity, you guys have had really high highs and some really low lows. How does it feel after missing out on Rio?
I'll never forget how we felt after missing Rio. That was the most disheartening thing ever and no one really wanted to touch the game after that. Today is JT's birthday so we had to give it to him.
MIBR is a team that you guys have faced so many times. This game looked completely different than any of those, what was the difference in game plan here?
Just focusing on ourselves and what we need to do instead of anti-stratting MIBR. We don't even know who our opponent is until midnight here so we can't anti-strat that much unless we do it at night. With that we lose sleep so we figured we should just focus on ourselves and it worked out for us.
You also faced paiN here, what can you tell me about the level and kind of opposition you've been facing here?
I feel like I'm playing the same Brazilian teams over and over. Everyone is good, obviously the games are close and... I have no words right now, it's so hard.
After a misstep at ESL Pro League, did you have any concerns heading in the RMR?
Yeah, the main concern was the practice schedule especially with hallzerk unable to travel and having to play on 150 ping online. We were only in EU for a certain amount for days, so for the last month we've only had twelve scrim days. We haven't been able to practice nearly as much as we should be. It paid off anyways, so I'm glad for that.
Complexity have a busy schedule with Melbourne before the Major and Dallas right after. What are you guys trying to prioritize in this next month?
We're just focusing on one event at a time but we're hoping to build up things at Melbourne and then bootcamp in Europe for the Major because that's the most important event of the year because there's only one Major this year.
There's got to be an amazing feeling about making the last CS:GO Major, does that feel special?
It's crazy, it's unbelievable. I didn't think I'd even get close to this, getting a single sticker and now we are getting a second one and it's the last Major. There's so much added up I'm so happy.
You've personally been put into a lot of difficult "bitch role" positions, how does that make you feel as a player when you're not able to play star roles?
I don't mind not playing the star roles because I know my teammates are capable of doing it. Grim has really sick raw mechanics and FaNg had an incredible Inferno, he saved us on CT-side. If you put a good player in the difficult roles then it's fine and you can still do ok. Better than just completely bombing out all the time.
