EG start slow
Evil Geniuses and Cloud9 faced off on the first day of ESL Pro League in a matchup just a few days after the Americans left their homes in North America. EG is coming off of a disappointing loss in the BLAST.tv Paris Major American Closed Qualifier where the squad were unable to qualify for the Americas RMR in Monterrey in April. Cloud9 have also faced some struggles with Timur "buster" Tulepov joining in place of Timofey "interz" Yakushin recently.
The match began on EG's pick of Inferno, which the Americans have selected quite often in recent games. With some victories in the Closed Qualifier on Inferno, it was looking like this map might be something of a comfort pick for them, especially as Cloud9 seem to rarely win on it.
However, this was Cloud9's map almost the whole way as they repelled all of EG's T-side attacks to secure an 11-4 half. With the sides switched, it wasn't even much more of a contest as they would ease to a 16-5 victory.
The second map was truly more of the same as Cloud9 dominated on Mirage, completely overrunning the Americans to claim an 11-4 half on their T-side. EG would look to do more with the sides switched, but it was not in the cards as they would end up losing the map 16-4.
Evil Geniuses will now play tomorrow morning at 06:30AM when they face off against the loser of Eternal Fire and G2.
