Open qualifier suffering from low signups
The open qualifier system for the Major is always an exciting time as teams from all over are able to enter the tournament in a grueling knockout round with only one map to decide the victor.
With the upcoming BLAST.tv Paris Major, Europe has already started their first day of qualifiers which has teams like HEET knocked out in the early rounds.
For the Americas, the first qualifiers begin today with just a few hours to go before registration closes. While in South America there are approximately 675 teams registered to play as of writing at 9:30 AM ET, there are only 33 teams signed up for the North American open qualifier.
It is not uncommon for most North American teams to register in the hours leading up to the match, but it definitely is concerning for the region that so few teams have registered the morning of. Some notable teams that are still not registered include Disconnected, Villainous, Take Flyte, and Reign.
This number absolutely pales in comparison to the first IEM Rio Major open qualifier where there were 217 teams registered to play, however only 111 teams actually participated in the bracket.
The numbers are concerning, but should hopefully increase in the hours leading up to registration which closes at 02:29PM, today. If you would like to sign up, you can do so, here.
