Lazarus and eUnited claim spots in ESL One New York Closed Qualifier
The final two series of the first ESL One New York qualifier has concluded, with Lazarus and eUnited clinching spots in the upcoming Closed Qualifier.
Lazarus were the first team to complete their series, claiming victory over Luminosity. The series started on Luminosity's map pick of Mirage, with the Brazilian team likely regretting that choice as Lazarus claimed nine out of the first ten rounds off the back of a CT-side pistol win. Luminosity found two more rounds during the half, but Lazarus ended the half comfortably in the lead 12-3.
Upon switching sides, Luminosity found the open pistol and the following round, however it mattered little as Lazarus rapidly outpaced Luminosity to close out Mirage 16-8.
Moving onto Lazarus' map pick of Inferno, the team began their T-side on a tear, claiming the first seven rounds in a row to immediately put Luminosity on the backfoot. Luminosity would attempt to answer back, claiming two rounds of their own before Lazarus found four more rounds to take the score up to 11-2. The Brazilian's closed out the half by claiming the last two rounds, closing the gap but still trailing 4-11.
Moving onto their T-side Luminosity began the long process of attempting to take the lead by winning the pistol round and converting it into five rounds. The Brazilians were never able to take the lead in the end as Lazarus claimed five out of the next seven rounds to close out the map and the series with a 16-11 finish. During the bout, Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker stood above the rest of the players on the server with 93.8 ADR and a 1.59 rating.
In the second North American-Brazilian showdown of the day, eUnited took on oNe, with the veto process taking the action to Dust2, Overpass, and Mirage.
Dust2 began with eUnited firmly in control as they claim the first half with a strong CT-side 10-5. Switching sides, oNe would find the opening pistol round, however any chance of a comeback was quickly dashed as eUnited found the next six rounds in a row to close out the map 16-6.
Moving onto eUnited's pick of Mirage, oNe would begin the map by claiming their CT pistol, though eUnited would bounce back to claim the next five rounds. After this, oNe would retake the lead after taking the next seven rounds in a row, and the half would end 8-7 in their favor.
On their CT-side eUnited found the opening pistol and converted the next round to retake the lead once more, with oNe trailing 8-9. The two teams would continue to trade rounds, with oNe’s strong T-side pushing the team over the edge and extending the series by closing out Mirage 16-13.
On the third map of the series, oNe claimed a strong lead on their T-side, ending the half 10-5. Upon switching sides, eUnited began to mount a comeback starting off by claiming the first four rounds in a row before oNe found two more of their own. As the action continued, eUnited's T-side only allowed oNe to find one more round before closing out Overpass and booking a ticket to the Closed Qualifier 16-13. During the map, Edgar "MarKE" Maldonado helped push eUnited over the edge with 24 frags and a 1.28 rating.
With Lazarus and eUnited claiming the first two spots, two open qualifiers spots remain to be filled, with the current list of teams looking as follows:
