Spirit dispatch Complexity at IEM Cologne Play-in
Complexity fell to Spirit 16-11 on Ancient in the opening round of the IEM Cologne Play-in after a magnificent performance by Boris "magixx" Vorobiev who was a dominant force in the first half of the match. Complexity will now head to the lower bracket where they will face the loser of Astralis v. 00 Nation, which is scheduled for 06:40AM.
The first half for Complexity started off on the wrong foot as they quickly fell 1-6 in the opening seven rounds on their CT-side. Spirit overwhelmed the Americans throughout the first half as they forced the Complexity side to use two of their four timeouts as they tried to get a handle on how they were letting their advantageous side slip away. After the second timeout, Complexity seemed to gain a bit more confidence as they rallied to finish the first half 5-10. With momentum on the side of the Americans, there was hope that their T-side would yield a few more positives.
The T-side did not yield any positives as they immediately lost the pistol and the subsequent two rounds. On the first rifle round at 5-13, Complexity made a delayed push onto the B site. After a quick double opening, the Americans had a 5-3 advantage. However, like so many 5-3 advantages they had this game, they were slowly traded away until it was down to a 1-2 with Johnny "JT" Theodosiou having it all to do, and he couldn't pull it out. At this point, Spirit played clean-up on the final rounds where they were able to close it out 16-11.
