FURIA take down Cloud9 at IEM Dallas
FURIA have booked their spot in the playoffs after taking down Cloud9 in two straight maps. The Brazilian squad will now play the winner of BIG/MIBR to decide whether their playoff campaign will begin in the quarterfinals or semifinals.
FURIA came out swinging on their opponent's pick of Vertigo, winning seven of the first eight rounds to cruise ahead into a healthy lead. The CIS side did show some life by adding three rounds of their own to interrupt the Brazilian dominance, but FURIA continued to pile on the pressure, eventually heading into their T-side with a comfortable 10-5 scoreline in their favor.
Cloud9 looked more rejuvenated when it was their turn to defend, brushing aside a FURIA pistol-round victory with three rounds of their own to claw back at the deficit. Despite this, any chance of a CIS comeback was swiftly shut down, with FURIA finding five rounds to Cloud9's one to steal Vertigo 16-9 and lead 1-0 in the series.
Mirage started off much like the first map of Vertigo, with FURIA continually outmaneuvering their foes on the offense to find themselves with a comfortable 6-3 advantage. But, when Cloud9 eventually woke up, this lead slowly got whittled away, eventually seeing the Brazilians just one round ahead by the switch.
FURIA came into their CT-side eager to put the map to bed, winning four in a row to extend their lead to 12-7. However, Cloud9 once again started to regain consciousness, brushing aside a FURIA round win with six of their own to tie the score at 13-13. Despite this comeback, the Brazilians soon regained their rhythm, posting the final three rounds they required to take Mirage 16-13 and the series 2-0.
FURIA will now face off against the winner of BIG/MIBR tomorrow at 03:30PM where a win would see the Brazilians book a spot straight into the semifinals of the event.
