CLG Red secure victory in ESEA Winter Women's Cash Cup 1
The inaugural ESEA Women's Cash Cup has concluded in an event which saw eleven teams battle it out for the lion's share of $1,000. The tournament comes after ESL announced their #GGFORALL initiative, aimed at promoting female and minority representation within CS:GO.
The first round of play saw Kimberly "Kimmy" Nelson's Little Bocks trounce PickUpGame 16-3 on Inferno whilst Infamous Girls also secured a one-sided victory by deconstructing GS-Tourmaline 16-6 to move into the second round.
Heading into round two, the dominant scorelines continued with Mounira "GooseBreeder" Dobie and company putting up a flawless performance on Mirage versus Sigma, dispatching of their foes 16-0.
On the other side of the bracket, DER GLC dominated the aforementioned Infamous Girls with a swift 16-2 cleanup while Little Bocks cruised into the semifinals with a 16-5 sweep against OSADIA. Icon had to work a bit harder against Slay, seeing a 16-11 scoreline be required to guarantee Brenna “bMAX” McCloud and co. a semifinal berth.
The first semifinal of the event pitted ESEA Main team CLG Red against Icon in what would turn out to be an anticlimactic series. An impenetrable defense on Overpass by Diane "di^" Tran’s girls saw the CT-side run away with the map to secure a 14-1 lead at half-time. CLG Red then quickly converted the next two rounds, securing a 16-1 scoreline to send the two teams to Vertigo.
Unfortunately for Icon, the battering didn’t stop there as the second map proved to be even less competitive than Overpass. CLG Red showcased a flawless T-side on the back of strong performances from Emma "Emy" Choe and GooseBreeder. CLG Red quickly stole the second pistol-round to cruise into the grand final with their second 16-0 display of the event thus far.
The other semifinal was also uneventful, with DER GLC having to forfeit their matchup versus Little Bocks to gift Somalie "smiLey" Audet's team a free grand final appearance.
The grand final of the tournament saw CLG Red take on Little Bocks, with the former only dropping one round on the way to the final. Despite starting the series on Little Bocks' pick of Overpass, it would ultimately be CLG Red who set the pace of the map as they started off convincingly to secure six CT-side rounds on the bounce. Kimmy's girls did reply briefly with a three-round interruption to CLG Red's strong start, but due in part to a stellar performance by di^, the CT-side were able to close out five of the final six rounds of the half to secure a comfortable 11-4 scoreline at the switch.
CLG Red continued to pile on the pressure at the turn of the half, winning their T-side pistol and converting the following round. Little Bocks did answer back with four rounds of their own shortly thereafter but the deficit from the first half proved too much to overcome, and CLG Red soon closed out the map 16-8 to secure the first map of the series.
The two teams then descended to Vertigo where things quickly unraveled for Kimmy and company who only managed to muster one round against CLG Red's T-side onslaught, which saw the side down 14-1 at the break. Determined not to be swept aside, Little Bocks did enter the second half semi-rejuvenated, managing to snag the pistol-round and subsequent anti-eco round. Despite then responding to a lone CLG Red round with three of their own, this would ultimately be too little, too late as CLG Red quickly closed the map 16-6 to be crowned winners of the first ESEA Women's Cash Cup.
With CLG Red's victory, the final standings for the event are:
1. CLG Red - $750
2. Little Bocks - $250
3-4. Icon
3-4. DER GLC
5-8. Sigma
5-8. Slay
5-8. Infamous Girls
5-8. OSADIA
