EnVyUs take down The MongolZ, Cloud9 upset Astralis
With the return of Nicolai "device" Reedtz, Astralis began their match against Cloud9 on the right foot, with a decisive pistol round win. They were set on not letting up any slack for the Americans, as Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth completely shut down Cloud9 in round two. Cloud9 picked up their first round in round five, and converted the round to establish an economy.
Despite a big triple from Will "RUSH" Wierzba, Astralis and Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye held the defense to keep the Danes in control of the game. Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham answered back, and collected a third round for the NA team.
Neither team let up, as Xyp9x, and Timothy "autimatic" Ta put up big plays, but Cloud9 eventually pulled away. Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham then pulled off a big 1v4 clutch to finish off the half 9-6 for Cloud9.
The second pistol didn't go as well as the first for the Astralis side, and Cloud9 quickly rocketed to 13 rounds. Jake "Stewie2K" Yip then held the line in the B bombsite, and despite a big round from Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen, C9 got the ninja defuse to get up to 15. The Americans closed out Train 16-6.
Astralis are now 0-2 in Group A and will next take on EnVyUs, while Cloud9 are now 2-0 and have the rest of the day off. They will face NiP first tomorrow.
EnVyUs took the first round of Cache after a triple kill from Alexandre "xms" Forté, but off the back of a huge triple in return from Enkhtaivan "Machinegun" Lkhagva, The MongolZ answered back in round two. The back and forth continued, but Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom and Cédric "RpK" Guipouy finally put EnVyUs into the driver's seat.
Despite some good rounds by Machinegun, his team was unable to collect any rounds, until round eight, where RpK's quadruple kill clutch attempt was in vain. Christophe "SIXER" Xia and xms immediately reset the Mongolian team however, as the Frenchmen racked up more T rounds. Vincent 'Happy' Schopenhauer claimed some important entry kills in round 13 that put his men in a great position to finish off a big first half.
Temuulen "Zilkenberg" Battulga had something to day about that however, as he secured an AWP ace on the B defense to keep The MongolZ in the game. The Mongolians could only manage three rounds total and ended the half 3-12.
The second half began with a clutch win for The MongolZ, which they converted into the normal three. xms took the first gun round of this half with a huge 4K, and he followed it up by a miracle ninja defuse to put his team onto 14 rounds. Zilkenberg, Machinegun, Tsog "Tsogoo" Mashbat, and Erdenedalai "maaRaa" Bayanbat all contributed to the comeback, but eventually RpK closed out the map 16-12.
EnVyUs are now 1-1 in their group, and will face Astralis in the next round of matches. The MongolZ move down to 0-2 and will face SK in just a few minutes.
