Ghost mix & Those Damn Canadians advance to WESG Finals
Punching their ticket to the WESG Global Finals in March of 2019, the Ghost mix and Those Damn Canadians both 2-0'd their series against French Canadian squad Grizzlys and female team Mirage, respectively in the Canadian finals at EGLX 2018.
Boasting one of eUnited's Canadian players Kaleb "moose" Jayne and Advanced player Anthony "gMd" Guimond, the Ghost mix were able to put together a string of impressive rounds to advance to the next stage of WESG over Grizzlys.
Inferno began as a close affair with Josh "steel" Nissan's side taking the first three rounds before Grizzlys' defense was proving too much, especially during their double AWP setups as Mathieu "INCREDIBLE" Bergeron and David "J0LZ" Jolin continued to shut down the pros. Despite what seemed to be a strong defensive prowess, the mix would snake the 8-7 half and not look back. gMd looked incredibly strong on his own CT-side, shutting down Grizzlys at every possible opportunity, pushing the map to a 16-9 finish.
As if Grizzlys was completely out of a gas, once the map switched to Dust 2 they had nothing left in them. The Ghost mix took two seven round win streaks in the first half to keep it to a 14-1 scoreline. Grizzlys attempted the comeback by winning the pistol round and the following anti-ecos but with only two more rounds needed to win, Matthew "Wardell" Bowman and his friends pushed forward winning the rounds back-to-back, and sending them to China.
On the female side of the tournament, Stephanie "missharvey" Harvey and the rest of Those Damn Canadians were able to bulldoze over Mirage fe with back-to-back 16-1 victories.
Mirage fe would try their luck picking Train but would find themselves down 9-0 before they would be able to win their first, and only, round of the match. The half finished 14-1 with little hope of a comeback in the second half as Mounira "GooseBreeder" Dobie would secure the second pistol of the series with a 1v5 dagger clutch, later pushing the game to 16-1.
Those Damn Canadians chose Cache to close out the series, almost completely mirroring Train. First by winning the pistol and securing the next five rounds, the ladies found themselves up only 6-0 before Mirage fe managed their first, and once again only, round of the map. One ten round win streak later and Amanda "rain" Smith and co. punched their ticket to China for the WESG female finals.
