compLexity complete comeback against eUnited; to MSI MGA Grand Final
After a slight delay, the MSI MGA side event at ESL One New York kicked off with compLexity facing Movistar Riders on Inferno.
compLexity asserted themselves early on their Terrorist side, jumping out to an eight round lead before the Spaniards got on the board. The half would go on to end 12-3 in the North Americans favor.
Despite their massive deficit, Movistar Riders battled back, aided by misplays and overaggressive plays by the compLexity side. In fact, the Spaniards reached match point first, but compLexity were able to equalize and send the match to overtime.
Three tense overtimes later, compLexity (finally) emerged as the victors, sending Movistar Riders to the lower bracket.
Next up was eUnited against the Kazakh side of AVANGAR. The first half between the two teams was back and forth, with neither going on a streak longer than four rounds. When the sides switched, however, eUnited clearly outclassed AVANGAR on their Counter-Terrorist side, with Kaleb "moose" Jayne leading his team to a 9-1 score for the half, easily taking the map 16-9.
The earlier results set up an all-North American Upper Bracket Final, with compLexity versus eUnited. eUnited wasted no time continuing their roll from the AVANGAR match, storming out to a 11-4 lead on the Counter Terrorist side of Cache.
Not to be deterred, compLexity emulated Movistar Riders in their opening match, going on a dominant eleven round streak to reach 15-11. With their backs against the wall, Michael "dapr" Gulino gritted out four rounds to send compLexity to another overtime.
With eUnited remaining on the Terrorist side, compLexity were almost certainly seeing flashbacks to the previous map, as the younger team won the first two rounds of overtime, before compLexity grabbed the last of the half. Fortunes would reverse themselves on the side switch, sending the teams to a second overtime.
The second overtime began with the two teams trading rounds, with eUnited coming out on top at the end of the first half. The second half saw compLexity finally wrap up the comeback, with the Major quarterfinalists racing up to another map point, before Bradley "ANDROID" Fodor secured a 3k to confirm the 22-20 win.
The result means that eUnited will await the winner of the matchup between AVANGAR and Movistar Riders, with the victor of that match joining compLexity in the Grand Final tomorrow.
