G2 send off Renegades, Na'Vi; to playoffs
Today saw the three remaining teams in Group A of the ELEAGUE Premier fight for the other available spot in the playoffs. First, the Australian-American-Canadian Renegades took on G2 in the best of three losers match.
The teams began on Renegades' pick of Mirage. Mirage has historically been the permaban of the French teams, but recently at DreamHack Masters Malmö they started playing it - and winning. Following the pattern from Sweden, G2 rocketed to a 8-0 lead on the CT side. Renegades could only manage a measly three rounds against the Kenny "kennyS" Schrub fueled G2. In the second half, Renegades began picking up some rounds with Aaron "AZR" Ward picking up some key frags. In the end, G2 picked up enough rounds to secure the win 16-9.
The second map Nuke wasn't as faith-inducing as Mirage, as Renegades could only pick up 2 CT rounds, being up against a power trio of kennyS, Nathan "NBK" Schmitt, and Richard "shox" Papillon. There wasn't even a chance of a comeback, as G2 quickly picked up the final three rounds to keep their tournament lives. G2 then moved on to play Na'Vi again, this time in a BO3, to decide the final team to advance.
Na'Vi kicked off their opponent's map Cobblestone with a pistol round won and four more rounds to go with it. Getting a lead on the CT side of Cobblestone is tough, and it didn't last too long, as shox led his team by example, and got his team up to nine rounds in the first half. Na'Vi once again won the pistol round, and thanks to Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev, regained the lead with 11 rounds. G2 though again mounted a late half comeback, and with the help of Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro, the Frenchmen finished off the first map 16-12.
Danylo "Zeus" Teslenko had a lock on the T side of Inferno, directing Egor "flamie" Vasilyev to rack up kill after kill. Na'Vi's pure dominance resulted in the CIS team garnering 12 rounds, a rare feat, in the first half. It seems Zeus and Mykhailo "kane" Blagin underestimated the offense of G2, as NBK and especially kennyS ramped up their play in the second half. The map went the full distance with G2 coming out the victor after winning seven rounds in a row to take the series 2-0.
