NA Major Regional Qualifier Preview | Complexity, Wildcard among teams vying for Major
The Major Regional Qualifier for North American teams begins tomorrow. Liquid and M80 are the only NA teams to have directly qualified for BLAST.tv Austin already, but eight more teams will compete for just three remaining spots.
Complexity and Wildcard are the highest ranked teams and look to qualify via the group stage. The top team in each of the two groups will qualify for the Major, while the teams that take second and third in each group will play in a last chance playoff for third and final Major spot.
Group A
Complexity v.
Getting Info
Complexity are a little unfortunate to come up against the best team in ESL Challenger League, but are still favorites against Getting Info on paper. Given Complexity's recent domestic and international form, they will feel supremely confident that their two star players, Michael "Grim" Wince and Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli will be the difference makers against Getting Info.
BLUEJAYS v.
MIGHT
BLUEJAYS were near the top of the ECL league for the entirety of the season, but fell off slightly at the end. They should have little trouble against MIGHT, who fell early on in the ESEA Advanced Playoffs. Gavin "Fruitcupx" Norman will be the player to look out for in the series as he's been BLUEJAYS' standout player this season, but the team has still yet to announce a replacement for the benched Kyle "Wolffe" Greenfield
Group B
Wildcard v.
Marsborne
Wildcard just barely missed out on direct qualification through the Valve Regional Standings to M80, so they will be hungry to prove their worth at this event. Marsborne will have a challenging task ahead of them, going up against one of NA's best teams. Swedish AWPer Love "phzy" Smidebrant will be hungry to make his mark in the NA MRQ in this game.
Nouns v.
NRG
The premier game of the first round will come between two top ESL Challenger League teams in Nouns and NRG. The player matchup to look out for will be Paytyn "junior" Johnson against Josh "oSee" Ohm. junior has been Nouns' best player in ECL, while oSee has been one of NRG's top players as well.
Here's the schedule for day one of the North American MRQ:
-
Complexity v.
Getting Info at 12:00PM
-
BLUEJAYS v.
MIGHT at 02:30PM
-
Wildcard v.
