Counter-Strike 1.6 fan remake trailer released
Yesterday, the developers of CS:Legacy, a fan-built remake of Counter-Strike 1.6 in the Source Engine, released their first trailer to the public showing the latest effort to recapture the magic of Valve's iconic entry into the Counter-Strike series. The standalone titles aim to be a ground up remake of 1.6 with entirely custom game code and assets alongside majors rewrites of the Source engine's renderers and shaders.
The game is built on top of Valve's official Source Engine 2013 Software Development Kit (SDK), the most recent version of the SDK the developer has released to the public. Among the mod's developer are those who worked on CSPromod, a short-lived but influential project from 2006-2012 that attempted to turn the much-maligned Counter-Strike: Source into an experience that would resonate with the 1.6 community. CSPromod never came close to completion so CS:Legacy is in some ways a continuation of that effort to finally finish porting 1.6 to Source nearly 20 years later.
There is an official Discord for the game that you may join to chat with the devs and other people who are interested in the remake.
CS:Legacy is slated for an early access release on Steam in 2025.
