The injury is totally cured now

reck explains how he broke his foot ahead of the 2025 season

The injury made him miss the first tournaments of 2025.

A broken foot caused M80's Ethan "reck" Serrano to sit out the beginning of the season and forced the organization to use the former BIG and OG player Nils "k1to" Gruhne as a stand-in. We didn't know how reck broke his leg until he admitted on ESL Pro League Season 21 that it happened after a night out.

"It was nothing special, it was just literally a night out, I stepped on it wrong, one too many drinks, the most boring way to break your foot possible," reck said to caster Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill after M80 defeated FlyQuest in the opening round of Stage 1.

"It's not like they wouldn't let me [get on an airplane], it was more like preference, I didn't really try. Since we were going straight to Europe, I didn't want to test that in the air. I had to wear a compression sock potentially, so it was more preference, just that first bootcamp."

M80 had a hard time with k1to as a stand-in, but they are recovering after coming back from Europe, and started playing with reck again. Even though M80 played with k1to only for a handful of tournaments, they noticeably dipped in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) as their core went from American to European temporarily, forcing the team to play Open Qualifiers.

They recently saw an uptick in form as they qualified for BLAST Open Lisbon 2025 and have the potential of qualifying to ESL Pro League Season 21 Stage 2 today, which will earn them some important points in the VRS.
