M80 marred by mistakes, tumble out of ESL Pro League S21 after 2-0 start
M80's greatest enemy at ESL Pro League turned out to be themselves. Mistake after mistake cost them the match against FURIA today, and now the NA roster is heading home despite starting Stage 1 with two straight 2-0 victories.
The series started dreadfully for M80 on Mirage. After a close first half, FURIA pulled away in the second, overwhelming M80's CT sides. Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato and Felipe "skullz" Medeiros contributed 44 kills together in a 13-6 beatdown.
M80 rallied though, taking a 9-3 lead early on Dust2 and never letting up. Ethan "reck" Serrano led the way but everyone on M80 did their jobs en route to a comfortable 13-4 win on Dust2.
However, mistake after mistake marred M80's performance on Anubis. M80 threw away three straight rounds during the first half, squandering what should have been a dominant T-side. They managed to salvage the pistol round after half-time, but lost an economy-shattering second round that spelled the end for M80's time in Stockholm. FURIA closed out Anubis with five straight T-side rounds to claim map three 13-5.
Following the match, Mason "Lake" Sanderson pointed toward communication issues being a primary factor in the loss. Those have to be cleaned up before the team competes at BLAST Open Spring 2025 starting March 19, or first round opponent G2 will pick them apart.
