Cloud9 eliminate Astralis
The second 1-2 match of the day was considered by some as the main attraction of the day. Two teams favored for the playoffs going into the tournament would now fight for their tournament lives. Cloud9 got off to a strong start on Train, winning the first five rounds on the Terrorist side. Astralis finally got on the board off of a 1 on 2 clutch by Nicolai "device" Reedtz, but could only muster two in a row before Jake "Stewie2K" Yip won his own clutch with 1 HP.
Will "RUSH" Wierzba then picked up a nice ace on C9's anti-eco, but a force buy win by the Danes gave Astralis an in to the half. It ended 9-6 for the American side after a back and forth end of the half.
The second half was delayed to begin due to a long technical pause, but after the server was up and running again, Cloud9 once again took the pistol round, this time with Stewie2K picking up a knife kill. The Tarik "tarik" Celik-led team won every round after that, closing out Train 16-6.
Astralis have been eliminated, and will not advance to the playoffs in Boston. Both device and Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth were in the group of four players to make top eight at every Major thus far, but this streak ends today. Cloud9 now have a record of 2-2 and will face one more opponent later today to determine whether they will advance to the playoffs.
