PGL CEO: "We will continue to run CS2 events despite concerted efforts from multiple parties to stop us"
PGL CEO Silviu Stroie has released a statement of intent regarding the TO's participation in the CS2 pro circuit. He's clearly challenging those who have been in control of the big events in the scene in recent years - ESL FACEIT Group and BLAST:
Counter-Strike is a global phenomenon and any single company that will try to monopolize it will simply fail.
This comes after PGL held a great event in Cluj-Napoca, their first non-Major tournament in a number of years. The successful event came despite multiple top teams declining invites allegedly due to PGL prioritizing the prizepool over organizational incentives like ESL's revenue share model and BLAST's frequent flyer program.
ESL's new revenue share model incentivizes teams to attend as many ESL events as possible with the caveat that they cannot skip more than two events each year to be eligible for the payout.
With PGL unable or unwilling to bring such incentive programs to the table, they will need to instead continue to attract teams with all-important VRS points and high-quality events.
