Austin mayor says BLAST Major will generate $30M for the city

The local economy will benefit greatly from the next Major.

At the BLAST.tv Austin Major press conference, the city's mayor Kirk Watson said that the "marquee event" will bring in a forecasted $30 million in revenue to the Texas city.

With 40,000 fans expected to attend the event at the Moody Center, the city estimates that the "average daily fan" spending would reach $481 per person. While this seems alarmingly high at first glance, this number more than likely takes into consideration expenses like travel, lodging, and tickets.

It appears then that the BLAST.tv Austin Major will bring in significantly more revenue than anticipated. Back in 2023, when BLAST was looking for host city partners, the organizer said that cities were bringing in over €22m ($23M) to the local economies. However, it's well known that things like travel and lodging are notably more expensive in the United States compared to regions like Europe, and BLAST wasn't explicitly talking about Majors then.

At the press conference, BLAST also promised that there will be tailgating at the event, bringing a North American sports tradition to Counter-Strike.
