Swisher didn't hold back

Pros slam VRS: "You’re killing your pro scene, Valve"

The tier-two scene is bleeding because of VRS.

Multiple CS2 pros and personalities have spoken against the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) this week because tier-two teams barely had enough ranked matches to play in 2025 so far. If these teams don't earn points for playing, there's no way they'll ever have the chance to play in tier-one tournaments as they won't receive an invite.

In the eyes of the Ninjas in Pyjamas' IGL Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer, this new system is killing teams who didn't enter 2025 inside the top 30.

"It is borderline impossible to grind rank," Snappi wrote on X. "@CounterStrike you fully closed down the entire system, and you are killing organizations not already ranked top30. We went through 6 open qual games vs multiple paid teams. How is anyone supposed to get up, when almost nothing is ranked."

M80's Michael "Swisher" Schmid also pointed his finger directly at Valve, just like Snappi.

"The circuit is more closed than ever and we’ll continue to see more tier-two orgs leave the scene unless something changes," Swisher wrote on X. "You’re killing your pro scene, Valve."

These VRS critics came on the same day that Endpoint, a UK organization that developed talented players such as Shahar "flameZ" Shushan and Guy "NertZ" Iluz, paused its Counter-Strike division as a result of "the landscape of CS changing dramatically".

VRS needs to be adjusted quickly otherwise we might see a lot of organizations follow Endpoint's path. Valve, however, has been radio silent about this matter, and others have noted that the point calculation is "flawed", like Complexity's GM Graham "messioso" Pitt.

yh, the 2 stage invite system being counted as a closed qualifier is not helping lower teams breakin once that was discovered it was going to be rough. At what point will there be a change?
