Shimmer top final ESL Impact Cash Cup in North America
Yesterday, orgless ESL Impact squad Shimmer topped the final ESL Impact Cash Cup ever in North America with ESL announcing that the Impact Cash Cup series would not be continuing in 2025. The win saw Shimmer end the ESL Impact Cash Cup event series in North America on top as a close win over Lotus saw the squad win their eighth event in a row.
As with previous ESL Impact Cash Cups in North America, turnout left something to be desired as only six teams showed up to fight for the $750 top prize. Of these, Lotus, Shimmer, and Lumen were the only non-mixteams in attendance, paving the way for another Shimmer v. Lotus finals after Shimmer dispatched Lumen 2-0 while Lotus did the same to Team Jayne.
With the familiar finals once again locked in, Lotus shocked by winning their first map ever against Shimmer in the two team's history, with a close 13-11 win on Anubis giving Lotus the lead. Moving onto map two, Shimmer was quick to remind Lotus why they are one of the top dog's in the NA Impact scene by securing Ancient 13-7.
With the series tied up, Shimmer would ultimately take Mirage fairly easily 16-6 as well to take the series 2-1 and claim the $750 top prize in the end of an era of the ESL Impact scene.
With the ESL Impact Cash Cup series coming to an end across the world, it is worth taking a moment to reflect on the benefit of the series to the NA Impact scene. Over three years, the cups paid out $71,000 to Impact teams in our region while these squads were the top earning teams:
-
Shimmer/TSM Shimmer - $20,500
-
FlyQuest RED/CLG RED - $14,750
-
The Little Bocks/Please Send Bocks - $6,750
-
Chimkin/DETONATE SparX - $3,750
-
Limitless Angels/Tsunami Sirens - $3,250
-
Lotus - $2,250
-
Nouns.fe - $1,750
Many in the Impact have lamented the loss of the Impact Cash Cups, despite the money largely going to a few days, so it will remain to seen if ESL's new incentives programs for the Impact scene can make up for the loss of revenue.
