Wildcard beaten out in ESL Challenger Katowice qualifier
Legacy secured the North American spot at ESL Challenger Katowice 2024 after defeating Wildcard 2-1 in the grand final of the North American Closed Qualifier last night. With Wildcard falling in the Closed Qualifier there will be no NA team at ESL Challenger Katowice while three Brazilian teams are set to head to Poland.
Things started off with a bang on Saturday when Mexican squad MarcaRegistrada surprised everyone by eliminating Party Astronauts from the open qualifier. Elsewhere, Legacy also defeated NRG in a 2-0 contest, which saw arguably America's hottest team fall short in yet another international qualifier.
However, the playoffs almost went the way that everyone expected. Closed Qualifier invitees Wildcard and Nouns faced off against MarcaRegistrada and Legacy, respectively. While the Central American side fell, the Brazilian squad proved to be tougher than expected as they sent Nouns down to the elimination match.
Wildcard would defeat the Brazilians in the upper final, setting up a rematch between Nouns and Legacy once more, just for the imports to be successful again. The grand final was hotly contested between Wildcard and Legacy with the latter coming out on top in the revenge match and earning the regional spot to the Polish event.
