The teams, format, and matchups for the RMR Americas NA Closed Qualifier
The North American Closed Qualifier for the 2024 Perfect World Shanghai Major Americas RMR begins later today with a multitude of international lineups, including two Brazilian squads and one Mongolian-majority team. It'll be an interesting event as this is the first edition of the qualifier run under the new system.
Open Qualifiers are gone with the sixteen teams competing over the next three days directly invited by Valve due to their regional ranking. This means that the mix-teams of old making Cinderella runs are no longer possible.
The two Brazilian teams were allowed to compete in the North American qualifier having established consistent residency in North America. E-Xolos LAZER had previously attempted to qualify for the major in North America for the Copenhagen major cycle; however, they failed to make it to the top 16.
Legacy had famously moved to North America following the 2024 PGL Copenhagen Major and the departure of famed rifler and AWPer Marcelo "coldzera" David.
Some of the more notable teams in this season's edition of the Major qualifiers include NRG, Nouns, Wildcard, and Party Astronauts. They are among the favorites to qualify for the upcoming Americas RMR which will be held in Shanghai weeks prior to the Major. Previous RMR attendees Elevate will also threaten amongst the crowd.

Format
The first rounds of matches will be best-of-ones until the elimination or qualification matches begin, which can happen as early as the second round. Just like the issues during the previous Americas RMR, this one will only have four teams advancing. Two losses for any team and you are eliminated.
Teams will progress if they earn three wins, however the lowest and second-lowest ranked Buchholz score 3-1 teams will compete in a best-of-three qualifier for 4th place. The highest-ranked 3-1 team will automatically qualify.
