Liquid rebounds to qualify for Cologne Groups
Things were looking dire after Anubis as Liquid had their map pick stolen away by FURIA and it was all headed to Nuke, where the Brazilians were particularly strong. However the international roster proved to be stronger than their opponents thought as they climbed back to tie it up and then secured the final map of Mirage in dominant fashion.
Anubis was tricky for Liquid as the team struggled to get their defense going against the Brazilians. It was really thanks to one Yuri "yuurih" Boian that FURIA were ever so dominant in the opening half. With having a 3-9 mountain to climb, it was impossible for Liquid to truly make an effective comeback as FURIA gave themselves the series lead 1-0 thanks to their 13-8 upset.
With the series heading to Nuke, fans were concerned that Liquid would experience their first loss with the new roster. The lineup only has a 33% winrate on the map compared to FURIA's 58%.
The Brazilians jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but Liquid somehow managed to find their rythym on the defense as they pulled out seven rounds to gain a slight lead heading into their T-side. It was the Roland "ultimate" Tomkowiak show as he powered his new team to the win as they evened up the series 1-1 with their nailbiting 13-11 win.
Mirage was an interesting final map for the two sides as Liquid is not known for their comfortability in that setting. Doubters were soon proven wrong as Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken lead his side to an incredibly staunch defense against FURIA as they claimed nine rounds to earn a significant advantage heading into their T-side.
Despite FURIA winning the first few rounds of the second half, it was Liquid that proved the doubters wrong as they fought through the adversity to continue their dominance on the offense as they cleaned up FURIA to secure a 13-7 map win and 2-1 series win.
With that win, Liquid have now officially qualified for the IEM Cologne 2024 group stage.
