M80 fall to The MongolZ
After a stunning overtime win over Complexity earlier in the day, M80's run at the Esports World Cup 2024 has unfortunately come to an end. Their second match of the Play-In stage against The MongolZ was always going to be difficult, and while the NA team made it competitive at times, the top Asian team was too much to handle as The MongolZ won Ancient 13-8 to knock M80 out in the best-of-one matchup.
Ancient began with M80 on the CT-side, where despite The MongolZ starting their T-side off 3-0, the NA squad were able to make things quite competitive, with M80 initially tying things at 3-3 before keeping pace to finish the first half down 5-7. After switching sides, the map unfortunately began to slip away from M80 as The MongolZ won their CT-side pistol and the following round to climb up to 9-5.
M80 finally found an answer back to The MongolZ's CT-side by winning the next three thanks to a leading performance from Ethan "reck" Serrano. However, after this point it was a dominant showing from The MongolZ as they only conceded one more plant in an eco round before the horde closed out Ancient 13-8.
