NA has a new face to fawn over

Lake: "We knew we had the momentum, we knew we had to keep going."

The rookie already talking like a veteran.

M80 certainly shocked all of North America with Mason "Lake" Sanderson's leading performance as they upset the region's best team, Complexity. It was a monumental win for the lineup who have just integrated the relatively unknown American starlet who has never played at this level before.

Integrating a rookie into a fully professional lineup does not always go so easily and with Lake, he struggled in his first match against Vitality and the undisputed best player in the world, Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut. However, his performances dramatically improved against Complexity as he helped guide his team to an upset that will certainly reverberate around the scene.

Following the game, the young 19-year-old spoke with OJ Borg on the broadcast to discuss his LAN debut, performances and ZywOo, and how he helped his team secure the unlikely win over Complexity.

One thing I find when you got a whole day of best-of-ones and maybe a best-of-three to play, is to go to Overtime

Yeah, Overtime is insane. I think we were a little nervous in the first eight rounds. We weren't playing like ourselves. I think Anubis is really good for us, I think it's a comfort pick for us. Honestly, we played that really well, I think we were just nervous. The nerves were bad, but as we got into it, the energy started to come up, and it was good.

At one point, it wasn't looking good. You were 6-1, 7-1 down and it wasn't the greatest first half.

It wasn't; it was not going great; it was not going how we expected. We weren't playing like ourselves. We were calling stuff that we had never even called before in a game, and we had to get in that rhythm and make it seem like we knew we were supposed to be here - that we were supposed to beat them.

When you get to that point, and you almost did it in regulation, and then it goes into Overtime, what gets said in the team because you know you could have won it?

Honestly, we didn't even talk about it. It wasn't even like that. We were down 7-1, overtime is a great, great thing. We had all the momentum - they won one round coming back, it's fine. We knew we had the momentum, we knew we had to keep going.

But then it got so close to finishing it, what was it, just a couple of points of health left?

Doesn't matter, doesn't matter. You gotta keep going.

Let's talk about you for a second. You've been on this team for nine, ten days. This is your international debut in a tournament, just a word about yourself and playing here.

It's been great. I've loved it here so far, the tournament has been so great. A little shaky there in the first game against Vitality, but I think we are starting to come together really well as a team early on.

Does it help to play through a losers bracket? Does it help make you sharper to get the team more together?

I think it's possible, but playing against Vitality was really rough because that was my first game. That was a very big trial by fire and it just did not go so great. There were a lot of mistakes, but I think that we cleaned it up a decent amount, but there are still things to work on. I think we played that game not terribly.

M80 will have to immediately get ready as they need to collect themselves and face The MongolZ in another BO1 later this morning.
