So long for now Mr. Møller

Official: cadiaN benched

The first domino has fallen in what will seemingly be another shuffle for Liquid.

Liquid have today announced that Casper "cadiaN" Møller has been moved to the bench, seeing the Danish IGL leave Liquid's starting lineup after six months with the organization. cadiaN's departure from Liquid's starting lineup was first reported by HLTV ahead of IEM Dallas 2024, with the team's 7th-8th exit from the American LAN at the hands of eventual champions G2 being cadiaN's final showing with the American organization.

Liquid's decision to move cadiaN to bench comes after six months of disappointing results for the international lineup, with Liquid's gamble on the former HEROIC IGL failing to bear fruit despite the on-paper quality of the roster assembled around him. This struggle was punctuated by Liquid failing to make the first Counter-Strike 2 Major, PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, in March. While Liquid did have some strong moments after the Americas RMR, this failure is what will likely define cadiaN's time at the helm of Liquid.

While Liquid's struggles to find success go beyond cadiaN's leadership, with Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis and Felipe "skullz" Medeiros also being prime targets for criticism, cadiaN ended up being something of a lightning rod for the bulk of criticism especially as his performance also left much to be desired on the server.

cadiaN's struggles on the Liquid roster seemed to primarily revolve around a stylistic clash between the Dane and his Canadian stars, with Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken in particular seemingly never buying into cadiaN's micro-heavy leadership style that he looked to import from HEROIC.

With rumors of Liquid being in advanced negotiations to sell skullz to FURIA, it appears that Liquid are in for large-scale rebuild during the player break. This roster will go down as the latest in a series of failed experiments for Liquid as their previous European roster built around YEKINDAR, Robert "Patsi" Isyanov, and Aleks "Rainwaker" Petrov also failed to return Liquid to their title contending days of 2019 with Nick "nitr0" Cannella at the helm.

Liquid are now:

  • Canada Keith "NAF" Markovic

  • Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis

  • Brazil Felipe "skullz" Medeiros (Reportedly joining FURIA)

  • Canada Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken

  • Brazil Wilton "zews" Prado (Coach)

  • Denmark Casper "cadiaN" Møller (Inactive)

These next few months will surely be interesting... I hope liquid can put together an actually functional roster by the end of the year.

The team they had was leagues and bounds better than the last few they attempted to make. I personally disagree with the move because I can't see a better igl option at the moment.

Liquid needs to bite the bullet on any Tier 1 deep runs for the rest of the year and just get 2 rising talents locally and remove Yekindar for a decent IGL
