M80 qualify for ESL Pro League Season 20!
It was never in doubt, except for maybe the beginning of the season when M80 had to play some of their ESL Challenger League matches with Fritz "slaxz-" Dietrich stuck in Europe on 150+ ping. That was not an easy time for the squad as they ended up in last place purely due to the lack of matches played.
However, following their moderately successful ESL Pro League Season 19 campaign the squad showed renewed vigor and dominated the domestic scene as they only dropped a single map on their way to earning the top seed in the playoffs.
M80 have now made it to the Grand Finals and earned one of two spots reserved for North American squads in the upcoming edition of ESL Pro League thanks to a dominant 2-0 victory over Wildcard last night.
The match started out on Anubis, where M80 failed to get their T-side going at all. With only four rounds to their name in the first half, things were looking grim for the North American side. However it was their CT-side that came alive in the same map where M80 was eventually able to force the game to head into overtime. Once there, M80 did not take their opportunity for granted as they closed out the map 16-12 to take the series lead.
Inferno was not nearly as close as Anubis thanks to M80 finally figuring out their T-side. The German-influenced squad dominated in the opening half as they came away with a 9-3 lead. From there, it was just a simple task of cleaning up after themselves to take the 13-6 victory and the ESL Pro League spot.
While the spot has been secured, the job is not yet over. M80 still need to play in the Grand Final this Sunday to determine if they will come away as the official winner of ESL Challenger League Season 47.
