M80 defeat Sharks to set up G2 match
M80 have come away with a triumphant victory here in Malta as the North American organization rebounded from their tight match on Tuesday with a clean 2-0 win over Sharks. The Brazilian squad kept it somewhat close on Vertigo, but were absolutely stomped on M80's new favorite map of Mirage where they hope to continue their strong form.
Vertigo started off hot for M80 as they bounced back from a pistol-round loss to win seven rounds in a row. While the Brazilians were able to scrounge a few more rounds to make the first half CT-side 4-8, it was not enough. M80 struggled for a bit on their T-side but did enough to close out the map 13-9.
Next up was sunny Mirage, M80's pick. A beautiful T-side pistol from Elias "s1n" Stein started M80 on the right foot and multikills galore put the first gun round in their hands as well. However, Sharks were not out of the count yet as they clawed back a round. One turned to two, two turned to four, and four turned to seven as M80 scraped the last round of the half to cut the deficit to 5-7. A Sharks pistol, conversion, and anti-eco turned 7 to 10 before M80's first true gun round yielded a win, with a second following. However, M80 lose to glocks for Sharks' 11th.
Yet thrown rounds go either way as Sharks toss one themselves, giving M80 the momentum and and an eighth. Rounds went either way as both teams tested their resolve, but in the end, it was Sharks to close out the map 13-10, stealing M80's pick.
Anubis, the neutral battleground, went early Sharks' way with the pistol and two following. The first gun round went M80's way cleanly, but Sharks quickly took the advantage back. It were some crucial rounds to break Sharks' economy that led M80 to win the half 7-5. Yet again, though, Sharks take the first three courtesy of the pistol to take the lead. M80 climbed back the summit to tie the game at 9-apiece. A ludicrous 3v5 put M80 in the advantage and the American team just cruised their way to 13, winning the series 2-1.
This victory sets up a lower bracket bout between M80 and G2. A rough game for sure, but the Europeans have not looked in their best form.
