Esports World Cup announces $60M collective prizepool
The organizers for the Esports World Cup have announced that they will be providing $60 million in prizepools across the 19 games held this summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The multi-event tournament will be held for the first time this summer with professional teams from across the globe competing across several different titles. The organizer had previously announced that they would be providing six-figure stipends to 28 organizations to help support their continued esports efforts. Additionally, the EWC would provide a one time stimulus for organizations that are entering new titles.
Alongside the individual prizepools for each title, there will be a "Club Leaderboard" where the top sixteen teams will get to split approximately $20 million in prizepool. How teams will be ranked in this leaderboard is unknown, but it's assumed that it will be based on organizational performance across each of the held titles during the lengthy event.
Of the total $60 million, $20 million is distributed in the aforementioned leaderboard, $30 million will go towards the individual game tournaments, $7.6 million has been allocated towards qualifiers, and there will be $1.1 million distributed as part of MVP Awards.
Specific dates for the event have not be revealed, however the Esports World Cup North American Open Qualifier begins tonight with teams like Liquid, NRG, and Wildcard entering with the hopes of joining M80 and Legacy in the closed qualifier later this week.
