Secret Club and Bad News Bears advance to ESEA Winter Cash Cup 3 semifinals
After six rounds of day one play Secret Club and Bad News Bears will be the two qualifier teams joining Rebirth and High Coast in tomorrow's semifinal matchups of ESEA Winter Cash Cup 3.
The early rounds of today's event were relatively upset free and most of the ESEA Premier Season 36 teams made it past their lower tier competition without trouble. There were two ESEA Premier teams who lost to a foe from a lower league however.
timbermen got a first-round bye and promptly lost their first match against Lux 16-10 on Vertigo, prompting Derek "dare" Brown to note that "we shoulda taken you guys seriously" in the match comments.
The other team to fall victim to an upset was Eclipse, who were bested in the round of 18 by BigChillinShopDotCom 22-18 on Inferno. Devin "Xzen" Barber dropped 40 kills in the win for BCSDC.
Secret Club on the other hand breezed through their first two matches against STMN and HeadShotKings before dispatching Levitate 16-13 and having an overtime scare against RBG. They topped off their run to day two with a victory over Triumph, 16-13 on Vertigo. Victor "v1c" T. continued to collect impressive statlines against quality competition, tallying a server-high 24 kills in the quarterfinal match. v1c will be tested by more quality competition tomorrow as Secret Club find themselves lined up to face High Coast.
Bad News Bears also weren't tested much in their early-round victories against Absolute Leverage, Hc, and Lux, but then found themselves needing to squeak out a win in overtime against Recon 5 on Nuke. Their quarterfinal match with Oceanus was much more comfortable in comparison as Michael "Swisher" Schmid tallied 24 eliminations en route to a 16-7 Bad News Bears win and a day-two date with Rebirth.
Tomorrow's matchups will be:
High Coast | vs. | Secret Club |
Bad News Bears | vs. | Rebirth |
Both matches will be played in a best-of-three format and are scheduled to begin at 4PM EST tomorrow. The grand final and the third-place match will follow.
