Ze Pug Godz and Chaos through to FunSpark ULTI qualifier upper bracket final
The FunSpark ULTI qualifier has finished its second day of play, with Chaos and Ze Pug Godz winning the first pair of best-of-three matches, following Saturday's opening-round best-of-one matches.
Ze Pug Godz came out swinging against oNe, converting a 12-3 first half CT-side to a quick 16-4 win on Mirage. Will "dazzLe" Loafman led the server with 20 frags, closely followed by Edgar "MarKE" Maldonado and Gage "Infinite" Green who both had 19. Matheus "prt" Scuvero had 18 kills for oNe, but the rest of his teammates were not able to muster more than eleven apiece.
oNe managed to draw even on a very back and forth, momentum-heavy match on Vertigo, as just four rounds were won by either team outside of a string of three or more. Jordan "Zellsis" Montemurro, Austin "Cooper-" Abadir, dazzLe, and prt all tallied at least 20 kills, but it was Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa who was the difference maker with 28 frags to carry oNe to map three.
The Inferno decider did not disappoint, requiring triple-overtime to crown a victor. dazzLe once again led the way for Ze Pug Godz with 37 kills, though all his teammates had at least 30 kills. Matheus "pesadelo" Panisset led all players with 38 frags in the map loss for oNe.
Chaos dropped the series opener on Dust2, thanks largely in part to a heroic effort by Jonathan "djay"Dallal, who posted 31 kills in a map that went the distance. The next highest fragger for Whalers was Josh "PwnAlone" Pigue with 21. Nathan "leaf" Orf and Jonathan "Jonji" Carey would lead the way for Chaos with 27 and 26, respectively, but couldn't prevent their side from falling to a 1-0 series deficit.
On map two Erick "Xeppaa" Bach came alive for Chaos. After just 8 kills in map one, he tripled his production and was joined by Anthony "vanity" Malaspina at the top of the leaderboard with 24 frags. The best Whalers could manage was Brandon "BOOBIE" Roberts' 19 kills, with the player taking the loss on this map as well as on the killfeed.
It didn't look like this Overpass would need overtime at all after Chaos jumped out to a 12-3 lead on T-side and even won their first two CT rounds to reach 14-3. But Whalers ran it all the way back, winning nine rounds in a row before Chaos reached match point. Whalers successfully fended off three match points, the last of which featured a 1v2 clutch from djay to force the overtime. Chaos would go on to win the match and the series to reach the upper bracket final. Jonji led all players with 28 frags, while ****** led Whalers with 27.
The action resumes later today with Positive Vibes Only vs. oNe at 1:30PM EDT, followed by Cloud9 vs. Yeah at 4:30PM EDT.
