Second Brazilian lineup, E-Xolos LAZER, to play in RMR NA Open Qualifier
With the start of the first PGL Major Copenhagen RMR Open Qualifier right around the corner, another surprising entry has shown up, Mexican esports organization E-Xolos LAZER. Even more surprising is that they are hosting a Brazilian-majority lineup for the qualifiers, creating a situation akin to LOS + oNe where the squad are playing outside of the South American region, and likely needed special permission from PGL.
First, for context, this roster consists of four Brazilian players, one Argentinian player, and an Argentinian coach. While none of the players are household names, Enzo "xns" Henrique and Ruann "keiz" Rotondano are the most well-known names to NA fans, having attended Fragadelphia 16 with oNe back in 2022. Matheus "mawth" Gonçalves also spent some time in North America in 2022, having played with SoJoga, notably winning CCT North America Series 1 over BHOP.
In its totality, E-Xolos LAZER consists of:
-
Enzo "xns" Henrique
-
Ruann "keiz" Rotondano
-
Matheus "mawth" Gonçalves
-
Samuel "voltera" Rodrigues
-
Ezequiel "KUN" Palmero
-
Esteban "samp4s" Sampayo (Coach)
As with oNe, the question has to be asked how this squad can compete in the NA qualifier despite never playing in NA and having no NA players. With oNe, PGL declined to give details outside of the fact that they were eligible, providing no precedent to judge E-Xolos LAZER. However, it is assumed that due to oNe having infrastructure in Las Vegas they were able to make the case to PGL that the organization has sufficient NA ties.
This may provide some insight for E-Xolos LAZER's case, as the organization is based out of Tijuana, Mexico meaning they could likely make a similar argument to PGL. Dust2.us did not hear back from PGL after reaching out to a PGL representative outside of normal business hours for comment.
The signups for the PGL Major Copenhagen 2023 Americas RMR North American Open Qualifier #1 are still open until Monday at 03:15PM and you can register here.
