Twistzz and FaZe win CS Asia Championships 2023
The day dawned in North America with Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken and FaZe lifting another Counter-Strike 2 title, this time in Shanghai, for the CS Asia Championships 2023. Despite a close opening BO1 against NIP, with five overtimes, FaZe didn't drop a single series on their way to the grand final where they met MOUZ.
Before the West started waking up, FaZe beat ENCE in the semifinal 2-1 in another very close series, with one map needing overtime to have a winner. One of the most consistent factors in favor of FaZe was Robin "ropz" Kool, who put up incredible stats during all BO3 series, which granted him the MVP of the event.
The grand final started with FaZe defending on MOUZ' Mirage and Twistzz and co. managed a solid 7-5 half. On the T-side, FaZe showed a lot of superiority, only losing two rounds to MOUZ. The map ended 13-7 as FaZe went to Nuke with a map advantage.
After an unbalanced first map, fans were expecting FaZe to make quick service of MOUZ on Nuke, as well, but Jimi "Jimpphat" Salo and Dorian "xertioN" Berman had other ideas, as they combined for 25 kills on the CT-side, propelling their team to an 8-4 half. FaZe managed to replicate the same score on the second half as everyone put up solid numbers. Three overtimes were needed but FaZe won their third event in three played since CS2 came out, also maintaining their winning streak alive at 15 wins.
