SoaR triumph over Rogue; move on to semifinals of Dust2.us Masters #1
Group B's winners matchup saw Rogue and SoaR competing on Inferno for the third slot in our inaugural tournament's playoffs. This match also serves to give some insight on how the matchup between these two teams could play out, as they look to compete for an ESL Pro League slot at ESEA's Global Challenge in the new year.
The first pistol round on Inferno went firmly in the way of SoaR. Although Rogue's CT side force-buy did considerable damage in the ensuing round, Spencer "Hiko" Martin and co. weren't able to convert it in their favor. The initial span of rounds in the half resulted in a back-and-forth between the two sides, with economical resets hitting both teams hard. Rogue were able to work their way up to five rounds amid these resets to tie up the game, but their progress late in the half was halted as SoaR repeatedly found openings in Rogue's defense. The allowed SoaR to take five of the remaining six rounds on their T side, ending the half 9-6 in their favor.
Rogue gave themselves the best chance they could to even the score by taking the second pistol round of the map. Sloppy play by Rogue in the second round gave every advantage they'd acquired over to SoaR as double-kills from Michael "Grim" Wince and Jack "xCeeD" Holiman came through. Grim & co. shot up to 13 rounds before Rogue was able to pick apart their defense, but an immediate reset followed and SoaR closed out the match post-haste.
SoaR have moved on to our semifinal stage, set to take place tomorrow. Rogue will need to face the victor of the match between Mythic and F1-racecar-PEEK in a best-of-three to determine who can snag the final playoff slot.
