M80 out of CCT East Europe Series 3
Despite being up 2-1 on the Swiss stage, M80 couldn't get the last win to qualify for playoffs, thus being eliminated from CCT East Europe Series 3. The team fell to 00 Nation and Metizport on the last two series, finishing the group with a 2-3 record. Should they have won against Metizport, M80 would be facing Virtus.pro on Tuesday, October 24th.
Not all is bad, though. M80 now can solely focus on the Thunderpick World Championship and work on the mistakes the team identified during this last event. The team has roughly a week to get in shape for the $500,000 prize pool event.
M80 started CCT East Europe Series 3 with two good wins and a close loss but then came the more seasoned squads knocking on their door. First was the revamped 00 Nation, now with a Scandinavian core. It could not have been a closer series than it was, despite M80 going down 2-0. The North Americans lost both maps just one round away from forcing overtime and second overtime, respectively, as the first map ended 13-11 and the second 16-14.
The series against Meziport was different, as M80 didn't look their best, losing the first map 13-8 and the second, their own pick of Ancient, 13-5. The team must not be happy with those results, but it is no reason to despair. These are teams that have plenty of experience in these events and it is very possible that M80 are still testing out new strats and are still perfecting others.
Now, M80 will stay in Europe for one last event in the old continent, as the team earned a spot in the Thunderpick World Championship, where they will face some fierce tier one competition and some of the best regional teams, including compatriots Complexity, Wildcard, and Nouns. The event will start on October 27th and will run until November 5th. The groups have not been drawn yet.
