What to expect from Complexity v. Monte (again)
In a rematch of their opening IEM Sydney game, Complexity will be facing Monte. However, unlike the opening match, this game will be BO3, and the stakes are much higher. You see, instead of deciding which team is sent to the lower bracket early, this is a rematch for tournament life. The loser goes home, so close yet so far. The winner goes to playoffs to play in front of a roaring Sydney crowd that hasn't seen Counter-Strike since 2019. Nothing is more important than this match.
Revenge for both sides
Complexity did get a leg up on Monte in the opening round, but Monte defeated Complexity at EPL not more than a month before in a BO3. Has Complexity actually adapted to CS2 better, or was it just a BO1 MR12 upset? Today will answer that question (and more).
-
EliGE has been instrumental against G2 and Cloud9, but wasn't incredible against Monte earlier. Can he readjust?
-
This is Complexity's 2nd game of the day. Are they warmed up or exhausted?
-
JT posted a 1.87 rating against Monte earlier. That isn't replicable (or is it?), so who will pick up the slack?
Monte are strong in the BO3s
As mentioned earlier, Monte defeated Complexity in a BO3 very recently at EPL, and since they've started their elimination matches, all BO3, they've looked much better. They allowed no maps for Grayhound and soundly defeated FNATIC, allowing 10 rounds combined on the maps they won against the EU team and achieving that much on the single map they lost.
-
Uncharacteristic 0.82 rating from Woro2k against Complexity earlier, can he do better now?
-
Can they continue to win the all-important pistol rounds?
-
DemQQ has been much stronger against Grayhound and FNATIC, will he do the same in the rematch?
Previous Matchups
These teams have met twice in history, once at EPL Season 18 playoffs where Monte won 2-1 in an even series, and two days prior at IEM Sydney where Complexity won the opening BO1.
Likely Vetoes
These vetoes look very cut and dry. If any other maps are involved I'll be quite surprised.
-
Complexity pick Mirage
-
Monte ban Inferno
-
Complexity pick Overpass; Monte just lost to FNATIC on it while JT's teams have always loved Overpass
-
Monte pick Ancient; Complexity were dominated by G2 and C9 on this map while Monte frequently pick it
-
Anubis Decider; both teams often pick Anubis and are likely eager to run it back on this map which decided the BO1 opener
