EG eliminated from ESL Pro League Season 18
Evil Geniuses' 2-1 loss against MIBR sees the team leaving ESL Pro League Season 18 with only one series win in four series played. The Brazilians will face Monte, again, but this time is do or die for both.
After a winless group stage, Evil Geniuses kicked off the Last Chance stage with a 2-0 win over Rooster, showing promise and some life in the tournament. The series against MIBR was a game of endurance, going the distance in the final two maps.
The series started off with EG's pick of Ancient. Although this was the team's "home" map, it didn't seem like it. MIBR looked very comfortable, as every player from the Brazilian side had a rating of 1.30 or better during their 16-1 win. Jadan "HexT" Postma was the only EG player with more than ten kills and with a positive rating.
MIBR's pick of Mirage started in a similar manner but with Evil Geniuses 7-0 in the lead. The Brazilians managed to go into the CT-side with an 11-4 deficit. Before EG could win a T-side round, MIBR had already tied the game 11-11, then the Seattle-based organization got back in the lead with three straight round wins. Once again, MIBR tied the game, and EG, once again, recovered the lead. With a 15-14 lead, it all came down to a 2v2 that MIBR won.
Overtime started with MIBR winning a flawless round, but EG coming back and then winning a 2v5 to win the T-side of OT. MIBR came back, again, and sent the game to a second OT. It started with EG on top after a clean CT-side half. Ahead 21-18, EG closed Mirage 22-20.
Evil Geniuses won the knife round and decided to start the Nuke decider on the CT-side. Although the NA team won the first three rounds, they would only be able to find two more rounds during the first half, as MIBR had a 10-5 lead at halftime. Despite losing the T-side pistol, EG won the force buy and the next round, before losing again and then claiming three straight rounds. Down 10-12, EG let MIBR make it to 14 before HexT one a crucial 1v1 clutch. Evil Geniuses recovered to a 13-14 deficit, but the Brazilians got to series point. EG showed mental strength and pushed the game to overtime.
Overtime did not start off well for the NA squad, which was only able to find a single T-side round. The second half had MIBR quickly reaching series point, but once again HexT was clutch getting two kills to stop the Brazilian offense. The final round of the first overtime was almost flawless for EG. The first half of the second OT ended with EG ahead 20-19 and a crazy first T-side round granted them the 21-19 lead. With just one round away from the win, EG lost their chance to close out the series in the second OT. Third overtime saw EG only winning the first round and MIBR closing the series with a 25-22 Nuke win.
EG has to return to North America to play the ESL Challenger League Season 46 and the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown Americas. The BLAST event will occur from October 4th until the 8th. MIBR will face Monte later today at 01:30PM.
