Forsaken, Wildcard make it through to ACE Masters playoffs
The second day of play in the ACE Masters Blast Fall qualifier concluded last night, seeing Forsaken and Wildcard top Group B in a fairly unsurprising outcome. The only true upset of the night saw ESEA Advanced squad Zomblers cut down Bad News Bears, another disappointing result for the star-studded mixteam.
Speaking of Bad News Bears, their debut in Group B was went quite well as they faced off against Forsaken. The team ultimately took a 19-17 loss on Inferno, but overall looked confident in the opener. The other opening match was also an overtime affair as Wildcard struggled to put down Zomblers, needing a 19-17 overtime win as well on Ancient to head into the winners' bracket.
The best-of-one match in the winners' bracket ended up being quite a decisive affair as Forsaken continued their winning ways by taking down Wildcard 16-8 on Inferno, a great showing against a top ECL team. Meanwhile in the losers' bracket, Bad News Bears' run was concluded with a 16-12 loss to Zomblers on Ancient in another disappointing showing for the BNB mixteam.
The final match of the went ended up going the distance as Wildcard needed 27 rounds to take down Zomblers, who overall gave a good accounting of themselves in this qualifier. Ultimately though, they were unable to overcome strong performances from Matthew "Cryptic" Whitmore and Matthew "d4rty" Paplawskas on the server.
Playoffs is set to start tonight, with one team ultimately coming out and top and picking up a coveted spot at the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown.
