Valve officially confirms MR12 and overtime in competitive play
Valve has updated the game today and within their news update, declared that they are officially altering the competitive gameplay from MR15 to MR12. The change was initially spotted in several leaks, but has not been confirmed until now.
Over the past decade, we’ve shipped updates to the economy and weapon balance to trim the fat and reduce the number of uncontested rounds in a match of CS.
Because of these changes, exciting competitive matches can be resolved with fewer rounds. And shorter matches mean players can play more, and more often. So with CS2, we’re moving to a maximum of 24 rounds in regulation time (with a 6 round overtime in case of a tie) for Premier, Competitive, and the Majors.
The community has been divided over the changes, with many commenting on the leaks and not having heard official word. Now, with Valve formally declaring that MR12 is the way forward, it is likely to continue to spark more dialogue regarding the length of the game and how that affects the competitive aspect of the sport.
