Paytyn "junior" Johnson was the star of the show for Evil Geniuses

EG win first back-to-back BO3s since September

The last time they won two consecutive BO3 was ESL Pro League S16.

After an easy layup yesterday for Evil Geniuses in the CCT North Europe Series 6 playoffs, the team have managed to best a stronger opponent in fellow North American squad MIBR. They now move on top the semifinals where they will face the winner of Bad News Eagles versus Spirit.

The series started off on Ancient where both teams showed a stronger CT-side than T-side, each posting nine rounds on the defense. Sending the map into overtime, the strength of CT-sides continued for three consecutive overtimes with only four total T-side rounds won between both teams. Eventually, however, on the fourth overtime, EG mustered out three T-side rounds plus one CT-side round and took the map 28-26.

On the second map of Inferno, things started off looking like MIBR were going to steamroll EG out of the map. But, after going down 0-6, EG were able to salvage the half and end with a 7-8 scoreline on their T-side. After moving to the CT-side, the Americans were able to continue their strong showing and eventually ended up in a 11-11 tie with Timothy "autimatic" Ta pulling off a play reminiscent of the Stewie2K clutch at the Boston Major.

Not letting MIBR garner a single further round in the map and series, Evil Geniuses closed out Inferno with a 16-11 scoreline. Taking the series 2-0, a very important win that the team can be proud of is now in the books. Tomorrow the team continue their run in the CCT tournament, playing in the semifinals and potentially the grand final if they can best BNE or Spirit who are about to kick-off their match.
