arT's stellar efforts were not enough to save FURIA from elimination

FURIA crumble versus TheMongolz

The new-look FURIA bow out of their debut event with a rough showing.

In a surprising turn of events, FURIA have been eliminated from the IEM Cologne Play-In following a 2-0 battering by TheMongolz. After kicking off their run with a hard-fought win over Grayhound, FURIA's fortunes were soured by a 2-1 loss to Monte, which set up the Brazilian side for their lower-bracket matchup versus TheMongolz. This loss marks an unfortunate start to the newly-modified FURIA, featuring Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo at the reins alongside the addition of Marcelo "chelo" Cespedes.

The all-important series kicked off on TheMongolz's pick of Inferno, where, despite missing out on the pistol round, the Mongolians were large and in charge for a good chunk of the half, procuring a 7-4 lead on the offense. FURIA nearly tied things up after an unfavorable start, but TheMongolz pulled through with a 9-6 lead at halftime.

FURIA's fortunes seemed to be turning around on their T-side, racking up five rounds including the second pistol round to claim both double digits and the lead. TheMongolz rallied with three close rounds, but FURIA still found themselves in control as they laid claim to match point with a 15-13 scoreline. Unfortunately, this control was merely a temporary illusion, as the Mongolian side snagged the last two rounds, forcing overtime, where TheMongolz quickly swept 4-0 to take their map pick with a belabored 19-15 scoreline.

Backs to the wall, FURIA now had to turn things around on their pick of Overpass. Dropping the first pistol round was not a great start to the proceedings, but the Brazilians soon rallied to take a 5-3 lead despite the lost pistol round. TheMongolz were unphased by these developments, putting together seven rounds in a row to snag a double-digit scoreline at halftime, taking a 10-5 lead heading into their T-side.

FURIA's dreams of digging themselves out of this mess were crushed by TheMongolz in a matter of minutes, as a pistol round victory in the second half quickly propelled the Asian side to the map win, besting FURIA on their own map pick 16-8.
