Complexity triumph on EliGE's debut
Ninjas in Pyjamas were the foes that awaited Complexity in their debut series with their newest star Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski who signed from their regional rivals Liquid. With the success that the 25-year-old found in his former team, hopes were high for his first run out with Complexity. With all the hype and some solid looking Counter-Strike with the little practice they’ve had, the NA outfit were thankfully able to get off to a winning start by taking down their EU opponents.
It was a slow start for North America’s number one team on their map pick of Inferno, falling to a an early 5-1 deficit on their T-side. There was going to be no blowout for EliGE’s first outing however, as Complexity quickly found their feet, levelling things up at 6-6 before NiP claimed the slight advantage heading into half time with an 8-7 lead.
Opening up in a similar fashion to the first half, the Europeans pushed their lead out even further after claiming 4 of the opening 5 rounds in the half before Complexity could get a grip on the half and bring things back. The Ninjas were the first to map point, but just when you thought Complexity looked set to send it to overtime, Hampus "hampus" Poser and co. closed out in Inferno on an unlikely force buy, sending the two teams into the American’s pick of Nuke.
Nuke got off to a similar start to Inferno, however this time around the roles were reversed. Complexity got off to a strong start with their defence of Nuke, opening up with a 4-1 lead and putting the crushing loss of Inferno behind them to start off. Just as Complexity had done on Map 1, NiP did not shy away from the fight, slowly crawling their way back into the game. A pivotal 1v3 by Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke seemed to shift the momentum back to NiP, but it was EliGE who claimed the last laugh by winning the 1v1 that granted Complexity a narrow 8-7 lead going into the break.
Winning the pistol round gave Complexity a bit of breathing room to start to start the half, following up with a string of rounds to take an 11-7 lead. Despite some solid reads and calls on the T-side, NiP’s defence was rock solid as they tied things up at 11-11 when Michael “Grim” Wince failed to find Fredrik "REZ" Sterner defusing in the smoke. Fortunately for the Americans, some stellar calling from Johnny "JT" Theodosiou closed out the map 16-12, securing map 3 of Overpass.
Traditionally Overpass has been a solid map for Complexity, hopes were high that the Americans could close out the series. NiP got off to a solid start on the T-side, storming out to an early 5-2 lead before a hero rifle round from EliGE rattled the EU outfit and reset their economy. Despite the damaged economy, GALIL's prevailed for NiP thus starting off another stint of dominance. Finding an unlikely round on just pistols, Complexity would go on to salvage their half after being down 8-3, making it 8-7 at the break for the third consecutive map.
A pistol round win tied things up for Complexity before NiP quickly regained their lead as the NA side walked straight into a moster stack force buy. Moving closer and closer to an opening lose with their new look team, it was the deagles of EliGE and Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli that stemmed the bleeding with some crisp shots to cut the lead to 12-9. The deagle round swung momentum in Complexity's favor, tying things up once again before taking the lead at 13-12. It was a brawl towards the end, but Complexity finally got it over the line with a 16-13 win to get off to a winning start in the era of EliGE.
