JT: "I think a lot of us just need to put in a lot more work"
Complexity have seen their season end at the hands of Imperial, a team that many had expected to implode after the incredibly public way in which Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo was fielding offers from other teams. With the season over for the North Americans, they can definitely add the BLAST Spring Finals to their list of notable event achievements alongside IEM Katowice. However, that's unfortunately where the team's success ends, bookended by two events in the first half of the year.
After the loss to Imperial, Johnny "JT" Theodosiou spoke with Dust2.us' Samuel "Draik04" Popkes to speak about the team's achievements in D.C., the season, and where everyone is going next.
I'm a little curious about the veto; the last few times you guys have went into Imperial you often leaned into Ancient and last time picked Nuke. What motivated the Vertigo pick this time around?
We saw that they were second banning Vertigo a lot and we didn't think they were that good, so we're trying to punish pick them. Honestly, I think we should have definitely won that map. We messed up a lot of rounds that we shouldn't have and they punished us for that, so well played to them.
Not daunted by their win against Vitality on Vertigo the other day?
No, I mean it was just not... I don't look at it that way like. They had one win against Vitality, obviously, they played well in that game, but I still thought that it's not one of their strong maps, and we thought we could punish pick them.
On Overpass you guys managed to snag both pistols, but not much else was going your way. What do you think was the problem?
I think we are losing a lot of entries across the map and we struggle to do any aggressive play that we made, we're not winning that. When we were going down 4v5, we kept stacking sites and we were just choosing the wrong site, so we never really got lucky on our CT-side. Then on T-side we just didn't have the money for most of the half. We tried to force up sometimes and it just didn't really work out. In the end, we just kind of went flat.
Considering the circumstances, obviously being a last-minute invite to the event and having a stand-in, how do you assess the results here?
I think we had one good game yesterday which was nice, we played really well. We were playing well with each other. Our teamwork is good, but I think in general a lot of us think we can do a lot better. I think a lot of us just need to put in a lot more work, a lot more practice, and just to try and come back better there in the next season. All of us just wanna play better, we want big runs into the playoffs. We wanna play in front of the crowds and stuff like that. We don't wanna just keep going out before we get to the crowd, so I think a lot of us are motivated to just get better and just to practice more, and hopefully, it works for next season.
