Complexity keep their season alive

The North American roster are one step closer to playing for the crowd.

Complexity and Astralis are hoping to make it into the playoffs for the BLAST Spring Finals in Washington D.C., as the final event of the season and potentially, of CS:GO. With Counter-Strike 2 making its arrival soon and forcibly updating all of CS:GO, this event marks not only the end of our competitive season, but the closing of an important chapter in Counter-Strike esports. In the end, Complexity came out on top in a three-map affair, giving North American fans hope of seeing a domestic team on home soil.

The match started off on Vertigo, a surprising pick for Complexity and one that Astralis did not seem prepared for. The Americans raced ahead to a 8-3 lead, only to let Astralis back into the action and almost tie it up at 8-7. The second half would go nearly the exact same way for Complexity as they would once again gain a commanding lead, just to let the Danes get within touching distance. Despite Complexity leading 14-11, Astralis would tie it at 14-14, then Complexity found a way to secure the next two rounds and win in regulation, 16-14.

In the second map, Astralis would find more comfortability on their pick of Ancient. While Complexity would jump to an early 5-2 lead, they would be unable to hold that consistently as Astralis came back to tie it at 6-6. The half ultimately came to a close with Complexity edging out an 8-7 lead. A pistol round win, followed by a subsequent conversion, pushed the North Americans to double-digit rounds, carving out a 13-7 lead. Astralis finally put a halt to Complexity's streak, putting up a string of rounds of their own to tie things up 13-13. The two squads continued to trade blows, but Astralis would find themselves on top with a 16-14 scoreline.

Although they may have been disheartened by the close loss, Complexity didn't show it as they came roaring out of the gates on Overpass, taking a solid 5-0 lead before Astralis answered back. The Complexity lead racked all the way up to 9-3 before Astralis closed out the half. Complexity's pistol brought them to double digits first, and the conversion brought them even closer to victory. After a few rounds, both teams traded force buy victories to tally the score up to 14-8. Astralis crawled all the way back to 13, but in what a staple of Overpass, two incredible desert eagle shots from Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek stole map point. Complexity stopped their choke and finished Overpass 16-13 and the series 2-1.
