jks is looking forward to the impending player break

jks: "Each day we're just trying to improve"

The Australian rifler was unphased by Imperial's fervor.

After a decently close series versus Cloud9 to kick off the BLAST Premier Spring Finals, G2 found themselves facing off against the wildcard side of Imperial in the Group A upper-bracket finals, with the Brazilians finding themselves there after an astonishing 2-0 over Vitality. After a dominant first map for G2, the series quickly descended into a bloodbath that finally culminated in a G2 victory in the third map, as the European side claimed a 16-13 win on Nuke to take the series 2-1, securing them a spot in the semifinals.

Shortly after G2's victory over Imperial, Justin "jks" Savage spoke with Dust2.us' Samuel "Draik04" Popkes about the intense match, playing against a vocal team like Imperial, and concerns regarding fatigue in the latter part of the season.

Congratulations on the win, a very close game. How are you feeling?

I'm feeling good. I'm actually in a lot of pain because I pulled something in my back before the game, so I really can't move my neck or anything, but I mean other than that it's okay that we won so I have time to fix it hopefully.

A phenomenal start on Ancient started to slip away on Inferno. What was going on that map?

I don't know to be honest. I think they just played a decent T-side, and we didn't really have an idea of where they were going in the mid-round, late round. Sometimes they just did things that we thought were too obvious but they still followed through with it, and they just committed together. We didn't really have a good CT-side, and we just have to watch it, that's it.

Imperial pulled ahead with a 7-0 lead on Nuke T-side. Were you concerned about maybe not being able to pull through?

Yeah, in a way, but I think we know that we have a good T-side on a lot of maps, and you can't really think about giving up or anything like that. We knew that we were fucking up a few rounds, we just have to play more together, and once we started winning some of those rounds to break the momentum I think it brought us back into the game.

One thing I have to ask about playing against Imperial; obviously the guys are super super loud. Did that get into your heads at all?

No, I don't think so, even some of us tried to do it back to them. Some teams like doing it because it gives them momentum and stuff like that, it's fine. But yeah, for us I don't think it affected us too much. It's just good that we managed to stay in the game regardless of all the weird rounds that we lost.

You guys have been going to events almost constantly recently. Is fatigue starting to be a concern this late in the season?

It is a lot. We're just hoping we have a decent result at this event, then we can go away and have a rest and chill out for a bit. Especially me, I'm pretty burnt out, physically my body is pretty fucked like I said before. Hopefully, we'll have a decent result this event, then we can just go back and reset in the player break.

In the opposite group, FaZe and Heroic won their first games pretty handily. How do you feel out the likely outcome where you'll be facing one of these two teams?

It doesn't really matter who we play, because we're gonna play one of the really good teams anyways, so it's gonna be a difficult game regardless. Each day we're just trying to improve, go back and watch the games, add some stuff and fix some stuff that we already have. It doesn't really matter who we play because it's going to be tough anyway, we just have to focus on ourselves and make sure we're fixing up some of the fundamental things that we're lacking right now.

jks and the rest of G2 will now have some time to rest ahead of their next match, as their win over Imperial gives them a bye to the semifinals, scheduled to be played Saturday at 01:00PM.
