No revenge for FURIA
FURIA and Heroic faced off in the same arena where the two met back in November when the Danes pushed the Brazilians to their limit and eliminated them from the IEM Rio Major. It was a tragedy for the Brazilians as they had the crowd behind them and had the storyline of winning a Major on their home turf.
The Major might be gone from IEM Rio, but FURIA have returned with a vengeance. With their quarterfinals matchup against Heroic once more, it was a match ready to be heated with fans looking to get one back over against the Danes.
Starting on Heroic's pick of Inferno, it was the Brazilians that would take charge as they deterred all of Heroic's attacks through to a 10-5 CT half. With the sides switched, FURIA were once again inching closer and closer to stealing away a map and putting themselves in prime position to win the match. A strong, back-and-forth second half saw FURIA win Inferno 16-12.
FURIA were now headed to Mirage where they have looked comfortable for so long, but immediately fell behind as Heroic were impenetrable. The Danes would be stalwart in their defense as they took a commanding 12-3 half. While FURIA would start to make a concerted comeback, it would be too little too late as Heroic closed it out 16-12 to force a third map.
With Ancient deciding who will continue in the Jeunesse Arena, FURIA got off to a red-hot start by winning the pistol and taking a 8-1 lead. However, that would not be enough as Heroic closed the gap to 9-6. Heroic would not let this deter them as their momentum down 1-8 carried them to a 13-10 lead and an eventual 16-13 win to secure the series and send FURIA to the stands.
