BLAST reveals new HUD for RMRs, community reacts
The BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 RMRs have started today, with the Asian region debuting the new Heads-Up Display (HUD) for the Regional Major Rankings for the first time.
The new design is very different from the standard the public is used to seeing, shying away from the normal vertical style, embracing a horizontal style, occupying the full bottom space of the screen, and changing the usual CT/T colors to purple and yellow, respectively.
Naturally, with all these changes, reactions from the community did not take long to form, with some supporting the new style and others criticizing BLAST's choices.
The main criticism from spectators has been the lack of K/D information on the HUD. Despite appearing for a brief moment, the K/D information fades out to give place to economic information, as seen in the screenshot above. Some fans have argued that seeing how much money players have during the round is useless, and it would make more sense to show it for some seconds after rounds start and before rounds end.
Fans have also criticized the poor visibility of the view model because when a player pulls out a utility, it's hard to see which type of grenade he is holding. The color scheme has also been one of the targets of criticism, with many arguing that purple and yellow don't mesh well.
Optimistic fans have praised the strikingly different HUD, stating that the horizontal style provides more side visibility, despite also agreeing that there need to be changes regarding the lack of on-screen information.
The design might be better as it gives the spectator more screen space that would be occupied by health bars and money, K/D, and utility information. Additionally, fading away the K/D information breaks the design and it does not make sense to be showing the player's economy during the round.
The first impressions have been mixed and surely BLAST is taking note of some of the criticisms. The RMRs are just getting started, so let's see how the HUD evolves and how the community opinion changes throughout the Major circuit.
