Nadeshot rules out 100T returning to CS:GO in current climate
Following two troubled ventures into Counter-Strike, no one would be surprised if 100 Thieves never fielded another roster in the game. Despite that, on a recent episode of The Courage and Nadeshot show, former Call of Duty pro and founder of the organization Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag set out his conditions for returning to the esport.
However, the 30-year-old laid out relatively strict circumstances that would have to come to fruition to facilitate that return by saying "unless something changes drastically around the economics of what the expectation is from the organizations, I can’t make any guarantees."
100 Thieves initially jumped into the scene back in December 2017 with the signing of the ill-fated ex-Immortals lineup. Due to controversy with Vito "kNgV-" Giuseppe at the time, 100 Thieves failed to make it onto the server for a single match before shuttering the division and reassessing their place in the ecosystem.
In October 2019, the NA organization returned with the acquisition of Australian side Renegades who were in red-hot form after making top four at the StarLadder Berlin Major. With the roster competing in NA, Nadeshot pointed to the difficulties of fielding an NA roster on the podcast, mentioning that the team was constantly traveling to Europe for tournaments and bootcamps while they struggled to find great practice while back in North America.
In terms of the economic side, Nadeshot was clear that he would love to compete in CS, however, the economic situation in esports currently makes it difficult to do so. Over the last couple of weeks we have seen reports come out around organizations such as FaZe and Heroic struggling financially. Despite the supportive boost given through sticker revenue at Valve-sanctioned Majors, Nadeshot believes that the expectations of players and agents from organizations need to be reined in before 100 Thieves could consider returning to the game.
