The Quest, Divine, Riot Squad start ECS S8 Pinnacle Cup 1-0
The first day of the ECS S8 Pinnacle Cup concluded yesterday, seeing eight victors and eight less fortunate teams.
A majority of the matches went as one would have anticipated, with the notable exception of Divine handing New Identity a 2-1 defeat.
Sharks took a relatively convincing win over Mythic in the event's opening with Ignacio "meyern" Meyer spearheading the charge. Mythic were only allowed 15 rounds across both maps and have now been sent down to the 0-1 bracket for a shot at redemption.
Having since announced the signing of Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek, ATK made their presence known against the French Canadians of Oceanus. They too would convincingly close out their best-of-three in two maps, permitting Oceanus a total of 11 rounds throughout the entire match.
Pujan "FNS" Mehta and Riot Squad managed to avoid heading to a third map by the skin of their teeth in their series against RBG thanks to a remarkable +36 kill/death ratio from Mitch "mitch" Semago with 109.6 average damage per round.
An unexpected victory for Divine sporting new addition Daniel "roca" Gustaferri transpired, overcoming New Identity in 2-1 fashion. A heroic effort from New Identity's own Michael "dapr" Gulino as the second-highest rated player in the server was not enough, as Divine would come back from a one map deficit to complete the reverse sweep.
Both the second and third rounds of the event will play out tonight where we will see two teams move on to the top eight as well the elimination of two teams.
Second round matchups set to commence at 6PM EDT are as follows:
